The History of Croydon Travel
Croydon Travel was established in Croydon, Melbourne in 1971. Within the last 50 years Croydon Travel has grown from a small suburban travel agency to a highly regarded international tour operator that services travelers throughout Australia and overseas.
Phil Asker opened Croydon Travel with his father and the company successfully operated out of the same Croydon location till December 2020. From August 2022 we have moved into a new serviced office in Croydon and are available to meet clients via appointment only.
Croydon Travel has always been much more than a suburban travel agency and they operated their first international tour in December 1971 to Fiji. Croydon Travel has since developed an international reputation as Australia’s leading creator, promoter and operator of luxury tours, innovative charter flights, private train tours and exceptional cruises.
We are proud to have started the iconic travel brands of Captains Choice Tours and Antarctica sightseeing flights.
As part of our company philosophy we have made significant donations over recent years to a number of charities – such as Clean up Australia, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Camp Quality, Make a wish Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis & Ronald McDonald House. These have been from our special projects of Captains Choice Tours and Antarctica Sightseeing Flights.
Croydon Travel has been highly recognised in the travel industry winning Travel Industry Awards for Best Metro Travel Agency in 1995 and 1998 and the AFTA Perpetual Trophy for services to the Travel Industry in 1999/2000.
Jamie Davison was also awarded Best First year employee in Travel at the Australian Travel Awards in 1995.
In October 2002 we were particularly thrilled to be a finalist in the Maroondah Business Excellence awards - and even more elated to receive the accolade of “Best Maroondah Business”.
We are also very proud of developing conference and incentive trips for KFC Australia, McDonalds, Kenworth and Thirsty Camel over many years.
We pride ourselves on going above and beyond for our clients and look forward to developing personal relationships well into the future
As we celebrate our 50th year in the industry we know our experience will be a key factor in clients wanting to utilise our services.
An Update from Phil Asker about Croydon Travel
Fifty years ago in May 1971, together with my wife Kaye and father Norm we opened the doors of Croydon Travel. Twenty seven years ago a young lad started his working career as a Junior Travel Consultant at Croydon Travel. It is now my pleasure to announce that Jamie Davison is taking over as the new Owner and Manager of Croydon Travel.
Jamie has managed the VIP Division of Croydon Travel for many years and has a large number of dedicated and loyal clients who have relied on Jamie to plan wonderful journeys and to rectify any problems that have threatened the journey in these challenging times.
I am delighted to hear that Jamie will continue and enhance the reputation Croydon Travel has developed over many years.
